Rising from the Ashes
My heart is heavy today. I couldn't bring myself to write for my gratitude journal because I woke up with something else on my heart. With everything going on in the world it is easy to ask "why God?".
This morning I woke up, and I could not stop thinking of a phoenix, the mythical bird that rises from the ashes. As a Black woman, I could not help but to relate this to my great-grandparents, my grandparents, and even my parents. Many times we have been chipped away at, pinned as the scapegoat and had our cities burned to the ground, but from the ashes we rise just as the pheonix.
Whether you are a woman, LGBT+, a minority, an immigrant, know that you will rise. You may be down but you are not out. I want to dedicate today to the people before me who were brave and persevered through oppression to get us where we are now. We still have work to do and in order to do so, we need to cultivate the light that shined within them.
Keep your head high, your heart light because in the words of Kendrick Lamar, "We gon' be alright". The light and love that is within me recognizes the light and the love within you.
Namaste, y'all
